    - 9-point wide-area AF
    - Picture Styles
    - DIGIC II

    - DPP RAW image processing software
    - Compact and lightweight
    - EF/EF-S lens and EX Speedlite flash compatible

    Make it your playground.

    Quality
The EOS 400D's 10.1 Megapixel sensor employs the same outstanding CMOS image quality advantage of its big brothers in the professional EOS 1 range. Super sensitive in low light and virtually noise free, CMOS is also fast and power efficient.

    EOS Integrated Cleaning System
For consistently pristine results, a complete dust prevention and cleaning system works to keep the EOS 400D's sensor spotless. A combination of technologies reduces, repels and removes dust and includes a Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit that shakes dust from the sensor with each power on.

    Large bright LCD
Reviewing your work is a delight with the super bright 2.5" 230k pixel display - nearly twice the size of the EOS 350D. Photos feel crisper, richer and more saturated, while a 160° viewing angle makes for easy at-a-glance checking and sharing.

    Faster, longer
Shoot at 3 fps for continuous bursts of up to 27 large JPEG images (10 RAW): like shooting a whole roll of film in a single burst.

    Picture Style
Switching between Picture Style presets is like being able to change film mid-roll to achieve different colour response and Black & White effects. Sharpness, contrast, colour tone and saturation are individually adjustable.

    High precision 9-point wide-area AF
Select from one of nine fixed focusing points across the scene for fast, accurate focusing - even with off-centre subjects and 'rule-of-thirds' compositions.

    DIGIC II
This tiny super-computer renders colours with precision, accuracy and speed. Fast and power efficient, DIGIC II also delivers instant 0.2 second start up time.

    Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software
Included in the box, DPP provides high-speed RAW image processing.

    Lightweight and compact
Protecting the camera is a tough, durable casing that also keeps weight down to just 510 grams.

    EF lenses and accessories
The EOS 400D is compatible with all of the more than 60 EF and EF-S lenses and all EX Series Speedlite flash units. E-TTL II passes data such as focal length and distance information from compatible EF lenses to the Speedlites for consistently accurate flash exposures.

    Connectivity
Video Out allows TV screen review. Fast data transfer comes standard with USB 2.0 Hi-Speed.

To bring it into line with some of the competition, it adds another two million pixels to the APS-C size sensor and gains a much larger TFT, which is a lot easier to see at a glance or even in bright sunlight. Maybe it's just as well, because the same...

If the transition from the EOS 300D to the EOS 350D was easily noticeable (tighter camera body and better finishing touches), the natural evolution to the EOS 400D is a lot less obvious. You will have to look internally at the new technology (dust redu...

The Canon EOS 400D is an impressive budget Digital SLR that looks set to take the world by storm, and rightly so. With a resolution of 10.1MP it could well replace the EOS 350D as the most successful D-SLR ever...
  • We´re now getting to the stage with D-SLRs where we´ll see less and less totally different products and more and more evolutions of the last models. The 400D is no different. It´s basically an upgraded 350D and has upgrades in most of the importa...

A camera like the Canon EOS 400D for example. The EOS 400D has been around for quite a while now and Canon has since launched the EOS 450D. But the EOS 400D remains in the Canon range and what’s more, is the sort of camera a beginner to DSLR photogr...
  • Let’s be blunt: there are better DSLRs on the market and the fast-moving world of digital photography means that the EOS 400 is hardly a top rank camera. But we think it is a fine model for anyone dipping their toe into DSLR photography and doesn&rs...

Impeccable picture quality in a well-rounded package. The market for sub-£500 10 megapixel DSLRs is hotly contested, but Canons EOS 400D is the one with the widest appeal. Most of its specs are fairly typical, but its nine-point auto focus is more...

Canon pretty much invented the digital SLR market and its 350D proved wildly popular, winning awards left, right and centre. The Canon EOS 400D is well on its way to doing the same, with its 10.1Mp Cmos sensor and excellent, almost totally noise-free...
