    Fast, sharp autofocus

Focus up to 6.1x faster than the original EOS M thanks to advanced Hybrid CMOS AF III. Autofocus locks on quickly and accurately for pin-sharp results with 49 AF points spread out across the frame, covering 80 percent of the frame vertically and 70 per cent horizontally.

    Creative assist

Unleash your inner artist with Creative Assist, which gives you easy control over camera settings via the touch-screen. You can preview your adjustments in real time, learn how they translate into traditional camera settings and even save and share your favourite settings.

    Expand your system

Change your lens and see the world from a different point of view. Choose from the EF-M lens range or use one of over 70 lenses designed for EOS DSLRs via the Mount Adapter EF-EOS M. Add other optional accessories such as EOS Speedlite flashes, an electronic viewfinder or external microphone.

Shoot movies like you shoot photos

Create superb Full HD (1080p) movies at 30fps in MP4 format with fast, smooth autofocus thanks to the advanced Hybrid CMOS AF III. Touch AF in movies lets you create smooth, cinematic pull-focus effects, and Manual Focus Peaking shows sharp areas of the scene.

Third time lucky? Canon is among the most celebrated camera brands in existence, but it's not had any luck with compact system cameras so far. Despite having a good sensor, the slow and expensive EOS M was a failure, to the extent that Canon didn't even r...

  • Relatively slow all-round performance, Disappointing dynamic range, Chunky kit lens, Limited lens selection...
  • The Canon EOS M3 is a much better, more complete-feeling camera than the EOS M. But perhaps that's the least you would hope for. More manual control, better AF performance and a new processor were almost a given for Canon to turn its CSC fortunes around...

Canon’s forays into the compact system camera marketplace have, to date, not been especially happy ones. When the EOS M first appeared in July 2012 it was aimed squarely at entry-level photographers looking for a simple-to-operate camera, but with an RRP...

Canon makes great DSLR cameras, there's no doubt about that. But in 2012 when the company dipped into the mirrorless market with the EOS M, it was unusually behind the curve. The EOS M2 appeared in Asia to try and fill a gap, some firmware update appeared...

The EOS M's major undoing was its woeful AF performance, but Canon says the M3 is up to six times faster. It was certainly rapid during our hands-on time with the camera at the Photography Show in Birmingham this weekend, locking and re-locking focus with...

  • Although the EOS M3 is better configured for photo enthusiasts, the lack of a built-in EVF remains a serious barrier to its acceptance as a serious enthusiast's or pro photographer's camera – even as a back-up body. The small buffer capacity for raw files...

The EOS M3 isn't as wide and thick as most APS-C interchangeable-lens cameras, which gives it a compact, 'cute' look that almost makes you want to give it a hug. Add to that a good grip and a nicely shaped thumb rest, and you get comfortable, reassuring h...
